Conference and Career Fair 2009

On behalf of the Winston Salem Urban League Board of Directors, our President/CEO Keith Grandberry and those we serve, I would like to thank you so much for your participation and support during the *Claim your Career Workforce Education Seminars and Job Fair. Because of your efforts, the “Claim your Career Workforce Education Seminars and Job Fair were a tremendous success and we could not have done it without you!!!
On September 14-17, 2009 The Winston-Salem Urban League presented Workforce Education Seminars to prepare participants for the Job Fair on September 18, 2009. These Workshops included Resume Readiness presented by Forsyth Technical Community College, Dress for Success “Fashion Show” presented by Experiment in Self Reliance, Dress for Success and Soulful Designs by Eaton,… The Workforce Education Seminars included panel discussions were led by Human Resource professionals from 24 companies and were facilitated by the Winston-Salem Urban League. These panelists addressed questions relevant to participants’ needs regarding employment issues. Participating companies included Home Depot, Olsten Staffing Services, GMAC, Novant Health, Forsyth Technical Community College, Forsyth County Department of Social Services, Volvo Trucks, Modern Toyota, Experiment In Self-Reliance, University of Phoenix, Soulful Designs by Eaton, Fathers & Friends/Program, US Airways, Training & Solutions, NC Vocational Rehabilitation Services,… One hundred-twenty people attended the Workforce Education Seminars that allowed them to preview expected competencies prior to the Fair. Forty-seven persons attended the entire four-day series and received special certificates.
Forty-seven companies and organizations participated in the lob Fair, meeting with applicants and discussing career paths and employment opportunities. The “Claim your Career Job Fair was attended by over 800 participants.
